What is an Affiliate?
Our definition of an affiliate
is someone who places a link from his or her web-site to yours. Normally
you would pay your affiliate on a pay-per-click, pay-per-lead, or pay-per-sale
basis. This serves as an incentive for your affiliate and ultimately, others
web-site owners to link to your website.
Pay-Per-Click,
Pay-Per-Lead, or Pay-Per-Sale ?
Example,
Pay-Per-Click: You
place a notice on your website, or use some other "creative"
method (we'll help you with the "creative" part") informing
web-surfers and other web-site owners that you are willing to pay them
$0.05 per click (for a pay-per-click affiliate tracking program) for any
visitors that click-thru from their web-site to yours. This person who
placed your URL link on their own site is called an affiliate. You would
in turn pay each of them (the affiliates) $0.05 per click for anyone who
clicks on the links which they had voluntarily placed on their websites. Pay-Per-Click
are the most popular Affiliate programs on the Internet today.
Example,
Pay-Per-Lead: This type of program works much the same as the
scenario mentioned above, but the payout is based on a visitor coming from
your affiliates web-site toy yours, and filling out a "form".
There are many uses of forms. We use them to narrow down our customers
needs to see if the products we offer on our web-sites will work for them.
Some web-sites use "forms" to gather information for future emailing
lists, customer feedback, and many other types of information gathering.
The Lead is tracked using a piece
of code (see
sample code) which you would place on the "exit" or "Thank-
You" page a visitor sees after completing and sending the form on
your site.
In this example of a Pay-Per-Lead
program, you would pay your affiliate a certain amount of money for each
Lead they send you.
Example,
Pay-Per-Sale: A Pay-Per-Sale program is identical to
the above
mentioned Pay-Per-Lead program,
with the difference being that the visitor to your web-site would have
to purchase something "online" from your web-site in order for
your affiliate to be paid. Normally, Pay Per Sale programs are tied
to the "exit"
or "Thank-You" pages of a shoping cart system. This tracking
is accomplished also by the use of a code which
is placed on your site.
