Beaded vs. Overlap Tank Liners

Compare bead-and-track attachments with overlap liners secured over the tank rim.

Liner bead seated in top-mounted track along a wooden tank wall

Gravity and water weight largely hold a tank liner in place. Secure its top edge with either an overlap attachment or a liner bead.

Beaded Liners

Type #3 liner bead cross-section with 1/8-inch top width, 3/8-inch height, and 1/8- to 3/16-inch lower profile dimensions

A bead at the top of the liner locks into bead track attached to the top edge of the tank.

Review the measuring allowance for each attachment.

Overlap Liners

Overlap liners have 6 to 12 inches of extra material at the top. The material goes up the wall and drapes over the tank rim, where it can be secured in several ways.

Retaining clips
For thin walls, a retaining clip can hold the liner wall in place, similar to an above-ground pool liner.
A strap around a round tank
A strap around the rim can be tensioned over the overlapping material to prevent the liner from slipping back into the tank.
A batten strip
Roll the overlap material around a small batten strip, then screw the batten to the tank. The screws must go through only the rolled vinyl and batten, not the actual liner.
