EMT Rail Anchoring for Pool Domes

Installation guide for grass, dirt, or pavers

Diagram of special anchors and concrete piers for a pool dome installed over grass, dirt, or pavers

A Rail-Based Anchoring Option

This alternate system uses a 1-inch EMT rail to support the dome anchoring points over grass, dirt, or pavers. The overview diagram shows the special anchors set in concrete piers beneath the rail.

Method 1: Eyebolt and Ring

  1. Eyebolt held in a vise while its eye is opened for an anchoring ring

    1. Open the Eyebolt and Add the Ring

Use a large vise for this procedure.

Place the eyebolt in the vise without damaging the threads on its shank.

Use a large screwdriver to spread the eye until the ring slips into the opening.

Use a hammer to tap the eye closed with the ring inside.

  2. Eyebolt ring shaped to fit over one-inch EMT pipe

    2. Fit the Ring to the EMT Rail

Use an eyebolt ring with an inside diameter of at least 1-1/2"; 2" is preferred.

When using a 1-1/2" ring, attach it to the eyebolt, return the ring to the vise, and apply enough pressure to form an oblong opening.

This creates enough room for the ring and eyebolt to fit on a 1" EMT pipe.

  3. Eyebolts, rings, and doubled cable ties securing a pool dome cable to EMT rail

    3. Secure the Dome Cable

Space the eyebolts with rings no more than 6' apart.

Attach the dome cable to the tube at approximately 3' intervals.

Use wire-ties (cable ties) at least 1/4" in width (1/2" is best) and double them up at each location as shown.

Method 2: Large Cable Ties

  1. Large cable tie securing an eyebolt to one-inch EMT tubing

    1. Attach the Eyebolt

For a faster, simpler installation, use a large tie to secure the eyebolt to the 1" EMT tubing.

Space the eyebolts with rings no more than 6' apart.

  2. Wide cable ties securing the exposed pool dome cable to an EMT rail

    2. Secure the Dome Cable

Secure the exposed cable in the dome hem to the EMT rail with large ties. These 1/2"-wide ties have a test rating above 200 lb.
