Before you measure

Items Needed to Measure for Your New Pool Liner

Having the right supplies ready before you start makes the measuring process faster and helps prevent missing dimensions on the liner form.

Measuring checklist

Gather these items before starting

These are the basic items needed for most inground liner measuring forms. Your specific pool shape form may ask for additional details.

We do not sell these measuring supplies, and we are not specifically endorsing these brands. The Amazon links are convenient examples; choose supplies that meet the same measuring needs.

  • 50 ft. or longer tape measure Use a tape long enough to span the pool without piecing shorter measurements together. Shop Tape Measures on Amazon
  • Pencil and clipboard Keep the printed form flat and write each measurement down as soon as it is taken. Shop Metal Clipboards on Amazon
  • Plumb bob and string Helpful for lining up points and checking vertical references when the form asks for exact locations. Shop Plumb Bobs and String on Amazon
  • Pool skimmer pole Useful for reaching across the pool or helping guide the tape to the correct point. Shop Pool Skimmer Poles on Amazon
  • The measuring form for your pool shape Print the diagram that matches your pool shape so every required measurement is captured. Choose measuring form
  • A helper Many measurements are easier and more accurate with one person holding each end of the tape.

How to use the list

Use the checklist with the correct measuring form

Start on the measuring forms page and choose the pool shape that most closely matches your pool. Print that form and keep this item list nearby while measuring.

If the liner needs to cover built-in steps, print the Step Detail Form too. Step measurements are separate from the main pool shape dimensions.

If anything feels unclear, call 800-982-6966 before guessing. A quick question before measuring can prevent problems later.
